Grokbot skills and connectors
Last updated October 10, 2026 · By Joe Apfelbaum
Connectors (called plugins in the app) let a Bot use services like Gmail, Notion and Slack directly. Skills are saved instructions a Bot can reuse. You install connectors from Marketplace in the sidebar, then type @ in a chat to attach one, or / to use a saved skill. Connectors and skills are shared across all your Bots. (xAI Docs, xAI Docs: Skills)
What are Grokbot connectors?
"Plugins give Bots a structured way to work with services like Gmail, Notion, and Slack, and are more reliable than clicking through a website when one exists." (Cursor Docs) For example, the Gmail plugin can search and read mail, draft and send, and apply labels. The Slack plugin posts as the Slack user you connected. (Cursor Help: Connect plugins)
To add one: open Marketplace, choose Add, finish the login in your browser, then type @ in chat to attach it. (xAI Docs) When a service has no connector, the Bot uses its browser instead.
What are Grokbot skills?
"A skill captures steps, decision rules, expected output, and safety boundaries." Your private skills are "one library shared by all your Bots." (xAI Docs: Skills) Cursor's advice is a good workflow: start with a one-time task, make it reliable, save the method as a skill, and only then automate it. A good skill says when to use it, what inputs and access it needs, the steps, how to check the result, what to return and what needs approval. (Cursor Docs)
You can also ask a Bot to watch you do a workflow once. The official page says it "saves it as a routine and runs it on its own next time." (x.ai/bot)
What are Grokbot routines?
"A routine tells one Bot when to run a workflow." It can run on a schedule, or when something happens: a Slack message, a GitHub, Linear, Sentry or PagerDuty event, an email or a webhook call. Routines run in the cloud while your laptop is closed. (Cursor Help: Routines)
Does Grokbot work with Obsidian?
We could not find an official Obsidian connector in xAI's or Cursor's docs as of October 10, 2026. Community guides describe workarounds, such as syncing your vault to a folder the Bot can reach or exposing it through a custom connector, but those are not official and come with privacy trade-offs. Remember that anything you put on the Bot's computer is visible to all your Bots. (xAI Docs) Check Marketplace in the app for the current list.
Does Grokbot have an API?
There is no public API for chatting with Bots that we could find. Routines can be started by a webhook call (Cursor Help: Routines), and teams can manage Grok Bot settings through an Admin API. (xAI Docs) More in our login, app and API guide.
Are connectors safe to use?
Connector logins stay off the Bot's computer: "OAuth tokens are held on Cursor's connector backend, and the Bot invokes tools without receiving them." But "plugins are account-wide. An installed plugin is available to every Bot you run." (Cursor Docs) Install only what you need, and add "ask me before sending" to every skill that can send messages.
