What is Grokbot? Grok Bot AI, explained simply
Last updated October 10, 2026 · By Joe Apfelbaum
Grokbot (officially "Grok Bot") is a team of always-on AI helpers you can hand real work to. Each Bot works on its own computer in the cloud, with a browser, files and a terminal, so it can sign into your tools, finish a job and come back when it needs your approval. It launched in beta on August 11, 2026, and it comes included with eligible Cursor and SuperGrok plans. (xAI, xAI Docs)
What is Grokbot AI?
Most AI tools are chat windows. You ask, they answer, and you copy the answer somewhere else. Grokbot works differently. xAI describes Bots as "AI teammates with names, jobs, and context that compounds over time." Each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, filesystem and terminal, "so tasks finish in your real tools instead of as chat drafts." (xAI Docs)
In practice that means you can say "go through my inbox, draft replies to the three customers who asked about pricing, and leave them for me to approve," and the Bot does the clicking, reading and drafting for you. It uses connectors (plugins) for apps like Gmail, Notion and Slack where they exist, and uses the browser like a person would for everything else. (Cursor Help)
Is Grok Bot the same as Grok?
No. Grok is xAI's chat app. Grok Bot is a separate app for running AI teammates. Cursor's help center says it plainly: "Grok (the chat app from xAI) and Grok Bot are two different apps." Grok Bot signs in with a Cursor account, and its usage is metered on that Cursor account, not in the Grok app. (Cursor Help: FAQs)
That is why you see both names together. xAI announced the product, Cursor runs the accounts, billing and cloud computers, and a SuperGrok subscription is one of the ways to get access. People search for it as "grokbot," "grok bot" and "grokbot ai." They all mean the same product.
When was Grokbot released?
xAI announced Grok Bot on August 11, 2026, as an early beta for SuperGrok, Cursor and Cursor Teams subscribers on desktop and iOS. (xAI announcement) Since then it has shipped updates very often. The public changelog listed version 0.68.1 on October 7, 2026. (Grok Bot changelog) Expect features, plans and limits to keep moving.
What can Grokbot actually do?
- Work in your apps. Bots sign into websites and tools once, and the browser session stays signed in for later tasks. (xAI Docs)
- Keep working when you close your laptop. Work runs on the cloud computer, so closing the app or your laptop does not stop it. (xAI Docs)
- Run routines. A routine tells a Bot to run a workflow on a schedule or when something happens, like a Slack message, an email or a webhook call. (Cursor Help: Routines)
- Learn skills. A skill is a saved set of steps and rules a Bot can reuse. All your Bots share one skill library. (xAI Docs: Skills)
- Ask before risky steps. Actions like sending, buying or deleting can stop for your approval first. (Cursor security docs)
- Work as a team. You can run several Bots, each with its own job, and they can pass work to each other. (x.ai/bot)
Who is Grokbot for?
It is built for people who have more repeat work than time: founders, salespeople, marketers, recruiters, assistants and small teams. You do not need to code. You talk to a Bot in plain English, the same way you would brief a new hire. The people who get the most out of it are the ones who give clear jobs, clear limits and clear "stop and ask me" rules.
It is less of a fit if you only want quick answers to questions (a regular chat app is cheaper), or if your work involves health records or other regulated data (see our safety guide).
Is Grokbot good?
It depends on the job and the budget. Early users on Reddit range from "Grok Bot is awesome! I get updates on the stock market, my to do list, waiting tasks" (r/grok) to complaints about cost, such as "Burning through 30$ in 1 day for normal usages is absurd." (r/grok) Others report slow computers and "model provider is overloaded" errors. (r/cursor)
Our honest take: it is genuinely new and genuinely useful for repeat admin and research work, but it is still in beta. Start with one small, clear job, watch your usage for the first week and grow from there. We go deeper in our Grokbot review.
What devices does Grokbot run on?
According to Cursor's help center, the desktop app runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, and the phone app runs on iPhone and Android. The cloud computers your Bots use run in Cursor's cloud. (Cursor Help: FAQs) See our login and app guide for where to download it safely.
